Exploration is participatory rather than passive. It is an active interaction of body, mind, and spirit with diverse environments and faraway people. There is a different kind of thinking inspired by getting away from the frenzy of our busy electronic age. Whether it is in the mountains, in the deserts, or upon the sea, the mind is freer and more imaginative. One is better able to see the value of simplicity in life. The human spirit thrives on richness of experience. Exposure to and involvement with other cultures enlarges our world view and allows us more compassion and understanding. The point is to get beyond yourself.
